DANCE
Dance is one of the newer areas of the secondary curriculum and is increasing in interest, talent and participants. It provides students with an opportunity to study an art form which was previously available only to those enrolled in private dance classes. Our HSC classes have achieved excellent results, as recognised by our prolific nominations for Callback – a showcase of HSC Dance works.
Kirrawee's dance syllabus allows both junior and senior students to study dance and develop their physical, cognitive, creative and performance skills regardless of previous experience or level of skill. In the senior school they are extended further allowing specialisation in the areas of performance, composition, appreciation and dance and technology.
There are two dance ensembles (junior and senior) which are formed each year through audition. Kirrawee provides many opportunities both in and out of school to participate in dance performances throughout the year such as:
- State Dance Festival
- State Dance Company & Ensembles
- Regional Dance Festival
- Regional Dance Ensembles
- Kurranulla Dance Festival
- Eisteddfods
- Schools Spectacular
- Dance Showcase Evening
- Theatre visits
- Participation in HSC Dance performances and tertiary workshops
- McDonalds Performing Arts Challenge (giving the students opportunity to dance at the Opera House)
- Annual KHS Dance Competition (allowing the students to do their own dance choreography)
We also have a junior sport dance group for our dancers who do not choose dance electives. This group performs at all major dance competitions. |
